Operating system is Windows XP versus Windows 98Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft. Accordingly, the QC4000 version of software will not be aggressively modified by Metronics. Metronics will adjust the QC4000 for bug fixes only, so there will be no new functionality or new benefits added to the Quadra-Chek 4000 going forward. The newer Windows XP platform makes the Acu-Gage easier to incorporate into current networking operations. With a writable CD-ROM, larger data files can be stored versus a diskette making it easier to manage your program data. Enhanced functionality of the QC5000Metronics continues to add new functionality to the QC5000 software. Enhancements that are now standard features in the software include profile tolerance and a worm tool that automatically establishes a continuous point cloud string over the perimeter of a shape that might not fit a standard geometry. The imaging technology incorporates a robust frame grabber formula that works on weak as well as clearly defined edges. The frame grabber can also perform pattern recognition for automatic alignment enhancement, going into a search pattern when the specified character or image isn't recognized. For international customers, the software can be loaded with foreign versions of Windows, allowing for system operation in a native language. Peripheral functionalityThe Quadra-Chek 5000 can support both touch probe and laser interfaces for 3-D data collection. It can also support integration of a Q-Axis rotary stage, allowing customers to rotate parts and collect data in various orientations. For example, the Acu-Gage ConoVision video/laser model can scan a cutting tool, rotate the part in 90 degree increments, and continue scanning. Once the part has been scanned a full 360 degrees, the laser data is compiled by software to create a full three-dimensional CAD model. An Acu-Gage customer can press a button and in 45 minutes can have a full 3-D CAD model of a part that has been created from scratch. The laser scanning, combined with the video technology, offers high accuracy reverse engineering as well as in-process gauging capability. Cost of ownershipMetronics and Acu-Gage do not charge for software upgrades for the standard QC5000 package. There is no users club and there is no annual fee.
